How do I choose the motorcycle tyres I need?

There are many factors to consider when deciding which tyres to have fitted to your motorcycle:

• Do you have a tourer, a sportsbike, a Harley Davidson, for example?
• What season is it?
• Your riding style – smooth and gentle, or doing a track day?
• Mostly A and B roads or motorway mileage?
• Do you want or need: cross-ply, bias-belted, or radial?
  • Cross-ply – crafted from weaves of cord underneath the rubber and requiring an inner tube. Often put on cruisers and tourers, for comfort.
  • Bias-belted – like cross-ply but with extra cords to support extra weight
  • Radial – no inner tube. A central belt supports the rest of the tyre ensuring rigidity and steadiness under extreme cornering and at speed.
